Over the past few months we’ve become immune to seeing close up images and videos of insects and spiders – NB you all knew of course that a spider is an arachnid and not technically an insect! Yes, we have become quite the bug experts of late, and the reason? It’s because the BugWorld Experience visitor attraction that opened at the beginning of this month in the Albert Dock, Liverpool, and we were fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to build their website.
The attraction is the UK’s first dedicated insectarium, and we were proud to be part of the surprisingly large team that helped to put it together as part of an Anglo-American agency partnership for a client based in Ireland setting up the attraction in the UK. Indeed, only one agency was local to the attraction itself, and this project really stands out for the principle of choosing agencies based on expertise, not on location.
This project also stands out for the brief we had which pretty much was ‘build a website’. There were some brand guidelines in place, and from these (which didn’t include a section for the use of the brand on the web) we created something quite special we think, with liberal sprinklings of high impact video, lots of images, fascinating facts, and we even created a Bug Club for children. All the text was rewritten by us too, and for regular readers of our blog you might see a certain style creep in from time to time!
All in all, it was a fantastic project to work on, and we’re pleased to say that we have already begun Phase 2 of the development programme with some great ideas for Phase 3. A bit like a Madagascan Giant Hissing Cockroach, this one will run and run. Why not experience BugWorld for yourself?
