As Hard As Nails

So, the Krypton Factor is back. Long ago, I used to watch this programme regularly, when Gordon Burns used to take normal decent human beings to the limits of their mental and physical endurance, without an ounce of humour and providing complete and brutal humiliation for the loser.

Twenty years and one presenter later – Gordon now the anchorman for a NorthWest news broadcast and occasionally an introducer for Radio 2 – the Krypton Factor is still as brutal. How do you feel having scored nothing this round, Paula? How do you think I feel in front of a national TV audience, Ben?

You’ve got to have a certain amount of arrogance to even apply to go on a show like this. Even sitting at home participating under no pressure at all was challenging. Despite taking my best scores from each participant’s challenges, and granting myself the privilege of assuming I wouldn’t have come last in the assault course (despite a sinking feeling I would have come in about 8 hours behind the guy who did come last who disappointingly was 15 years older than me), I still wouldn’t have come anywhere near the top slot, only achieving an ignominious third place.

This must be a tough show if I only came third and I’m watching it on the TV. Bring back Blockbusters, I could win that one. I’d like a P please Bob.
