With news of the recession ever present it would seem that people are finally appreciating that they still need to do business regardless of what the economy is doing, and that means marketing themselves. Given that the Internet is one of the most cost effective methods of promoting a company and its products/services, we’ve been quite busy recently, which goes some way to explaining why I’ve not updated our blog for a while. Sorry about that.
We’ve been getting some calls from some interesting companies lately, and while the deals aren’t yet in writing so I can’t say too much, I’ve been to London recently for a couple of meetings with some very exciting prospects. I tend to spend a lot of time travelling up and down the M5/M4 corridor, and have got the timings down to a fine art now. For those who are concerned about my carbon footprint, I always make sure that I stop off to see a few clients along the way, because Internet or not, business at our level is still good to do in person.
Our latest work is for one such exciting company – Sysmex – who are a Japanese medical equipment company with a global presence. We’re honoured to have been chosen to develop their new UK website, and this launched recently to positive feedback which we’re pleased with. The site can be seen at www.sysmex.co.uk.More locally we’re also pleased with the gradual expansion of the Cornwall Stay Guide, which is a Cornish Cottage Holidays promotion, and is aimed at tourists visiting Cornwall who are seeking to stay close to places of interest to them. This is a logical way of promoting holiday accommodation that skips most accommodation providers, but is proving to be highly successful, and we’ve almost completed the work on version 2.0 of this site which is going to be much more advanced. Watch this space.
I’d also like to welcome Mat Scholes to the Slightly Different team. We did an underground recruitment campaign looking for design talent in the kind of places we would expect them to hang out – no, not those kind of places – and asked those interested in joining us what made them Slightly Different in less than 18 words. Mat responded by creating a crossword with the 18 answers being words that described his approach to design. We liked it, and from the manic grin on his face, we think that Mat likes his new job. Here’s Mat’s showreel, which we liked:
